  • Show how to identify where waves are reaching
  • Identify moist sand
  • Show how to estimate a distance of several feet
  • A site with moist sand several feet above the reach of waves can be selected for a sand castle

     

    Objective: Train in site preparation and initial construction
    Conditions Actions Criteria
  • Proper site
  • Small Bucket
  • Small Shovel
  • Show how to pile sand
  • Show how to pack sand
  • Identify sand that needs more water to be packed
  • Demonstrate how to estimate size needed for the initial cube
  • An initial cube can be constructed large enough and firm enough to support towers at each corner

     

    Objective: Train in tower building
    Conditions Actions Criteria
  • Initial Cube
  • Small Bucket
  • Small Shovel
  • Show a diagram of where towers will be placed
  • Identify proper wetness of sand to be packed into bucket
  • Demonstrate how to pack bucket and invert over cube
  • Demonstrate how to tap bucket to release sand
  • Show how a finished tower should look on top of the cube
  • A tower can be built at each corner of the castle 

     

    Objective: Train in adding decorative features
    Conditions Actions Criteria
  • Unfinished sand castle
  • Demonstrate how to insert finger in correct location on front face of castle and the shape of a door or gate traced out
  • Show a diagram of how the door should look
  • Decorative features can be added to the castle

     

    Objective: Train in moat digging
    Conditions Actions Criteria
  • Sandcastle
  • Small Shovel
  • Describe how to estimate 6 inches for depth and width of moat
  • Show a layout of an aerial view of where the moat should be dug
  • A correctly sized moat can be dug around the castle
